Beth Mayr (Moderator)

Co-Founder, Board Vice President, & Advancement Committee Chair

Beth started volunteering at a young age – but never did she think that serving her community would lead her to start a non-profit in a foreign country. In high school, Beth served her community through projects with Key Club. Beth continued her service at Villanova University, volunteering on service break trips, at a weekly meal program, and in the Center for Peace and Justice. After completing her degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Peace & Justice, Beth volunteered for a year in Ecuador at a vocational school for former street kids. Though public schools in Ecuador are free, families often still struggle to provide all the necessary materials while living on minimum wage and trying to feed a whole family.

Upon returning to the U.S., Beth worked in volunteer management at Catholic Charities of Baltimore for 5 years, first serving the immigrant population, then working at Baltimore’s largest homeless shelter. Beth received her Master of Arts in Emerging Media from Loyola University Maryland, and now works as the Communications Coordinator for the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen parish and school.

Outside of this work, Beth co-founded The Starfish Foundation, a nonprofit that provides educational support for students in Ecuador through scholarship, tutoring, and leadership development. She currently serves as the Board Vice President, as well as supporting many advancement initiatives for Starfish. In her local parish, Beth manages the young adult program and spearheads the communications for their events. Beth volunteers for the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership nonprofit, working with the seminars in Central PA and Maryland, as well as with the World Leadership Congress (WLC). Beth serves on the Committee of the Alliance for Catholic Charities, a young professionals’ organization to support the work of Catholic Charities.

Beth has won various awards over the years – the HOBY Outstanding Young Alumni Award (2013), the Villanova University Young Alumni Medal (2017), a Citation from the Comptroller for her work at Catholic Charities’ Weinberg Housing and Resource Center, and more.

Beth has a heart for service, empathy for justice, and passion for strong communication, which leads her to serve these populations with her skill sets. Mostly, Beth looks forward to continually seeing the ripple effect of Starfish Scholars, HOBY alumni, and Catholic young professionals in their communities.
